Criteria: Create documents with an awareness of expectations of “real world” discourse communities.
Project: Shamrock Inn Website
Course: ETC 224 – Writing for the Internet
Assignment Criteria
This class was designed to teach how to write content for websites and build them using Macromedia Dreamweaver. I was asked to seek out a client and produce an entire site for the client. The site was required to have images, content (including “thick” text) on all pages and a true representation of the business.
Audience
My primary audience is for the patrons of the Shamrock Inn. I realized that a lot of the customers are mainly involved in pool and dart tournaments and therefore, tried to use calendars and rules of the game for convenience as well as reference. In addition, I took into consideration all of the other customers who may frequent a bar and made a very searchable and user friendly site to visit.
My Contribution
I am the sole author of this website.
Publication History
This website can be viewed online through my personal webspace. The manager of the Shamrock Inn decided not to renew his license to operate the establishment and the owners have decided to sell the bar.
Reworking of Publications
This website is very text heavy and that was encouraged by the professor for this assignment. It proves that websites can be more than fluff and shows the important role of a technical writer. For this website I used a sans serif font for the headings and a serif font for the information. A shamrock is green so I coordinated the color theme accordingly and used their logo and basic graphics throughout. If they decided to open tomorrow the main revising would be invested in the calendars and the dated information.
